On Sunday, we arrived at Hiroshima. We traveled there by Shinkansen (High speed bullet train), and then checked into a very fancy hotel. Shortly afterwards, we took a ferry to Miyajima, which was a beautiful sight. We walked on the beach by the Torii Gate, which was the center of the Itsukushima shrine. Turns out that the place was a very popular tourist attraction, as we ran into many tourists along the way and even chatted with some. Some of us took our shoes off and walked over to the Torii Gate in knee-deep water and took a group selfie, which was fun, but then we struggled to put our shoes back on. After returning to the entrance, we took a cable car up to Mt. Misen, which was fun for some and scary for others. At Mt. Misen, we were given a challenge: get to the top and then back to the bottom within about an hour (since we needed to return to the bottom before dark.) Most of us took this challenge and basically ran to the top in about 10-15 minutes. It was an exhausting yet incredibly satisfying trip. The view at the top was so beautiful that we took a moment of silence to appreciate it. To me, it is one of the biggest highlights of this trip. I truly felt like the effort to make it to the top was worth it. About 30 minutes later, we returned to the cable car and took a trip back down to the bottom. We then took the ferry back, and then took a bus back to the hotel, and then had a good night’s rest shortly after.
